PMG created the STIP Manager to be an easily navigable application for our clients. There are many areas of the software that require certain fields to be filled out in order to generate results. Furthermore, there are many aspects of the application that will take the user to the appropriate location based on their response to a pop-up message. Therefore, users should be aware of these pop-up messages and their benefits.
An example from the NCDOT STIP Manager of pop-up messages providing essential instructions is in the Location area of the Details tab under the Projects Module. In this portion, users can add a route segment, bridge point, point, boundary area, or polygon to the locations table. As the user saves their changes, pop-up messages come into play.
When the user selects the “Save Changes” button on any of the Add Locations interfaces, the system will display a message of “[Location Type] saved successfully. Would you like to add another Location?” If the user selects “Yes,” they will be given a blank Add Location popup. If the user selects “No,” the popup window will close and the project window will be displayed with the Location table expanded and populated with the recently saved information. Therefore, a user's attention to pop-up messages can make their STIP Manager experience easier, smoother, and faster.
Whether to check that a change saved or to navigate through the STIP Manager, the pop-up messages in the system are helpful guides meant to shed light on user errors, direct user efforts, and instill confidence in user modifications.
