As outlined in the "Map Controls" article, selecting the Change Map Display symbol will trigger the appearance of a new pop-up window on your computer, allowing the user to control the projects that will appear on the map. By clicking the icon on the left-hand corner of the screen, the user is able to view an interface-- i.e. a small, editable box-- that contains categories for filtering the future displayed data. The box will look like this:
Categories & Meaning
In order to utilize the filter categories-- STIP ID, Mode, Funding Program, STI Funded Category, Division, County, and MPO/RPO-- the "Select Project for Display" section must have the word "Filter" selected. If "None" is selected, the map will appear in its basic, blank state. If "All" is selected, the map will showcase every project contained in the given STIP, including pending changes if the most recent STIP is being considered.
Each filter category is self-explanatory in the type of data that will be outputted on the map. For example, if the user selects the "Highway" mode, only the projects which benefit North Carolina highways will be placed on the map. Therefore, users are able to view specific query results based on a common element.
The filter categories also have two manners for inputting data parameters: free-form text and picklists. The only filter with the free-form text option is STIP ID at the top of the interface. The remaining six filters are picklists, directing the user to select from a list of available options in these categories.
Initial Display
The STIP Manager can also remember a user's filter selections in the application through the "Save for Initial Display" checkbox. By clicking this box, the map will recall the chosen filtered results upon reentry into the Manager system. In other words, the map will show the given results every time a user logs back into the application.
If a user wishes to clear this personal initial display, they can simply go back into the Change Map Display interface, select the "None" circle at the top of the window, mark the initial display checkbox, and click "Refresh Map." This will return the map display to its original, blank state.
